CHALLENGE
This campaign coincided with the very beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, and the district of the Oakland School Board is substantial—both geographically and in the number of voters we needed to talk to in order to be successful. Because of the unprecedented nationwide lock-down, we had to adjust our campaign strategy and adapt to the challenge of running a successful campaign while respecting the health and comfort of the voters with whom we needed to be having conversations.
APPROACH
While some campaigns ceased direct voter contact (field) strategies entirely during that time, we were unwilling to go that route. Instead we modified our “walk cards” employing levity during what felt like an anxious and uncertain time. We followed-up with texts, emails, and phone calls—all inviting the community to Zoom events. In the end, we provided a robust, memorable, and award-winning field strategy, and a win for the candidate.
