Rebuilding Capacity
CHALLENGE
Over a number of years, during a time when there had been little local engagement, the Democratic County Committees (particularly in rural communities) had begun to flounder, becoming ineffective, under-resourced, and mistrusting of the state party. four waters media was contracted to help rebuild strategic effectiveness, self-sufficiency, and trust.
APPROACH
Working collaboratively with the incoming administration, we began by listening to the county organizers. We conducted strategic development trainings across the state, and focused on re-building capacity and self-determination. During statewide gatherings, we designed and conducted a consistent training/information sharing program where the agendas were determined by our ongoing evaluations to meet needs and rebuild trust. We worked with staff to make materials user-friendly and accessible, and fostered peer-to-peer sharing opportunities. Ultimately, we helped support a shift in culture and improve camaraderie statewide—which led to success in elections.
