Finalist Concert Series
CHALLENGE
Every year, the Auburn Symphony presents an amazing series of regional concerts and educational events to the community. It offers free concerts in the park, supports youth music, and features world-class musical talent. In March of 2020 the symphony began an exhaustive search for a new Music Director. It was decided that the 2020/2021 season’s primary series of concerts would introduce the three finalists chosen, with each finalist developing and conducting the musical programming for one concert. This presented us with a unique creative opportunity while we developed all the collateral for this concert series, which included posters, programs, and digital content.
APPROACH
The goal of this season’s artistic themes was to feature the skills and accomplishments of the candidates for Music Director. The graphics had to look cohesive but feel distinctive to each finalist, all while staying true to Auburn Symphony’s brand. Photos of each finalist formed the basis for the main poster artwork, with emphasis placed on the imagery of the white shirt and conductor’s baton. Carefully considered use of color and the impression of a shining spotlight all were used to evoke feelings of drama, energy, and movement. The client wanted this artwork to be particularly eye catching to encourage the public to attend the concerts, and audiences were invited to give input and feedback which was taken into consideration in the final decision. Once the main poster artwork was finalized, it was deployed across all collateral for each concert.
