principal PMCohen | Paul Cohen

Paul Cohen is the Principal at PMCohen Public Affairs, a San Rafael based firm which offers both strategic communication and outreach and political campaign services as necessary to help you succeed.

Blending complimentary skills and experience, Paul and four waters collaborate to provide comprehensive campaign management. From precise voter-targeting to Framing, printed materials, and online tools, they bring a shared commitment to high quality, personalized support to both candidate campaigns and ballot measures.

Paul spent more than a decade as the Director of Government and Public Relations for the Northern California Carpenters, a union representing over 40,000 members and covering 46 Northern California counties. He was responsible for managing the union’s internal and external political communications and overseeing campaign contributions. He also directed field operations and labor outreach on numerous political campaigns, from local to statewide.

He served as the union’s communications director, managing print and social media, and serving as the media spokesman for the union. He oversaw all aspects of local and regional government relations, on issues from land use to project funding and public policy related to the construction industry.

Mr. Cohen has successfully run for public office, serving effectively on both the San Rafael City Council and School Board. As a 16-year member of the San Rafael City Council, he developed a keen understanding of land use issues in California.

Since 2008, he has served as the Chair of the Marin Democratic Party and is a member of the California Democratic Party’s Executive Board.

Now Paul brings the investment and experience of those years of public service to his clients, providing a unique wealth of political knowledge and history, public policy understanding, and relationships with elected officials and community leaders throughout the North Bay. Paul received his degree in Political Science from Swarthmore College. He and his wife have lived in San Rafael for 30 years and raised two wonderful daughters.
